Why should you invest in good quality canvas?

I buy my canvas from a professional printer who have perfected “traditional canvas”. Traditional canvas prints start with the photo being printed on Kodak Endura Metallic Paper. They strip the emulsion from its paper base, laminate the emulsion to the canvas and then, under extreme pressure, permanently adhere the laminated emulsion to traditional artists canvas.

What does this all mean?

Your canvas will have greys that look silver or show the beautiful bronze and golds of fall. The true artist’s canvas will show all the knots, imperfections and weave of a real canvas. More importantly, your canvas will be durable and last forever.

I tell my clients they can dust their canvas and even wipe it with a damp cloth but, truth be told, I had never tried. In fact, I did wonder if that would work and, to be honest, who would get their canvas that dirty?

Fast forward to today when my son threw a pair of wet muddy socks down the stairs and one hit my canvas! Yep, splash of mud that was very obvious! After my initial shock (and a few choice words) I took down the canvas, took a deep breath and wiped it with a damp cloth and….it came clean in one swipe! No mud, no water marks, good as new.

So, long story short, when you are investing in art for your walls be sure to track down the best quality canvas you can find – you won’t regret it!
